Citizen Science

Citizen science is the active public participation in scientific research: interested citizens work (scientifically) together with professional researchers.

Citizen science activities within the SNSB range from collecting observational data, plants, animals, fossils or minerals as well as participation in fossil excavations, to the scientifically based discovery and processing of animal and plant groups or fossils by so-called amateur scientists. A large number of publications on systematics or distribution of living and extinct animal, fungal or plant species are produced by people who do research in their spare time.

The cooperation with amateur scientists in research as well as the permanent preservation of private collections transferred by donation or purchase is a very important focus of the SNSB. Some outstanding projects are presented here.
