Naturkunde Netz Bayern – Bavarian Natural History Network

A natural history network for Bavaria: Since 2015, the Bavarian Natural History Collections (SNSB) have been expanding their natural history education and their regional geoscientific and bioscientific research throughout Bavaria. Additional funding is being used to strengthen scientific projects as well as the museum education of natural science content in the regional museums of SNSB. These institutions share research infrastructure, resources and ideas and work closely with the Bavarian Natural History Collections and the Museum Mensch und Natur in Munich. But the Naturkundenetz means more: joint exhibitions are shown in all museums and are thus accessible everywhere in Bavaria. In the field of education, the Naturkundenetz is also involved in the Bavarian Education Network for Nature, Environment and Science.

With the Bavarian Natural History Network, the SNSB promotes research and natural history education throughout Bavaria. The regional museums play the central role in this: their scientific collections have regional relevance and are of global importance. The unique geological diversity in Bavaria is made accessible by our scientists on site. Through excavations, ongoing scientific work and cooperation with researchers from all over the world, they gain important insights into the geology and palaeontology of these important discovery regions. These findings not only flow into publications in high-ranking journals, they are also communicated through permanent exhibitions and museum educational activities.
